Villagers don’t believe in Vishwajit’s new stance


The villagers opposing the IIT project in Melauli village of Sattari taluka on Tuesday took with a pinch of salt Health Minister and Valpoi MLA Vishwajit Rane declaring his opposition to the project, and asserted that “they don’t believe in Rane’s words”.
They accused Rane of misguiding people by showing his letter written to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and releasing a video making his stand clear on the project.
Members of the Melauli Panchkroshi Gram Bachao Andolan, which has been spearheading the opposition to the project, told a press conference at Melauli temple late Tuesday evening that they don’t believe in the words of Rane, whom they accused of bringing the IIT project to Melauli.
“He is now declaring himself as a saint,” they remarked, thundering that the agitation against the project will continue till it is scrapped officially.
“We demand scrapping of this project, which should be notified in the gazette. We also demand that police cases against the people be dropped immediately,” said Shubham Shivolkar, a leader of the protestors.
He maintained the project has been proposed on the land belonging to their forefathers; the government is now shown as the owner of the land.
