Demanding that the government immediately quash the First Information Reports (FIRs) registered in connection with the Shel-Melauli issue and release those arrested on “false charges of inciting violence” in the particular village, the convenor of Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM), Subhash Velingkar on Saturday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party in Goa has come far from its values like nationalism and ethics, and is now a fascist group of people led by the Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant, which has unleashed dictatorial rule on Goa.

“The state BJP unit is now carrying out vindictive activities against those, who are not supporting the misdeeds of its government,” Velingkar charged, observing that when the Congress party was in power in Goa, never did it turn revengeful against its opponents.

“In fact, even though I had launched a verbal attack against the then chief minister Digambar Kamat on the Medium of Instruction issue, he never responded with a vengeance” he maintained, pointing out that various Congress leaders are his good friends.

Alleging that the Chief Minister, along with the state BJP president Sadanand Tanawde and the state organisational secretary of the party Satish Dhond have been working to destroy his family, the BBSM convenor said that his son, Shailendra has been arrested on false charges by the police, and then tortured to extract false confession from him regarding his role in instigating violence at Shel-Melauli.

Velingkar also alleged that his son was badly beaten up in the custody of police, who have framed him in various crimes.

“He was beaten to such a point that he suffered a hearing impairment,” he informed, pointing out that Shailendra has developed a clot in his ear after the Superintendent of Police (Crime Branch), Shobit Saxena slapped him repeatedly on his face.

“The Judicial Magistrate First Class, Margao eventually asked the police to submit a fresh medical report of Shailendra and ordered his transfer from police custody to judicial lockup,” Velingkar stated, reiterating that Shailendra was beat up by the police under the personal instructions of the Chief Minister.
