The skin is the largest eliminatory or detox organ in our body. It also acts as our first line of defence. The skin comprises three layers that protect us from microbes entering into the body unless there is cut or a lesion. The skin helps in temperature regulation and moisture retention so that we don’t get dehydrated. It also has sensory receptors on the surface which help in detecting pain through the sensation of touch, heat, cold and pressure. The skin has many functions. And it’s our job to keep it clean and detoxified to boost our health. Here’s what you can do to improve your skin health:

Consume fruits and vegetable: Fruits and vegetables of all kinds usually contain high moisture content, antioxidants as well as phytochemicals that help in hydrating the skin, reducing oxidative stress from the body, flushing out toxins and cleansing the skin well.

Pumpkins have a high content of carotenoid that helps in reducing skin cell damage and has a beneficial impact on skin appearance and perceived attractiveness.

In addition, sweet potatoes are rich in beta carotene that helps repair skin cells and slows down skin cancer cells. Also, being rich in vitamin C content, it helps in collagen formation

Consume amla or aloe vera juice: The application or drinking of amla or aloe vera juice helps in detoxifying the body and treating skin conditions. It gives you soft, supple and glowing skin.

Consume foods containing omega-3 fatty acids: These foods include salmon, cod liver oil, flax seeds, walnuts, coconut, etc and help in hydrating the skin as well as reducing inflammation. They are responsible for healthy cell membranes and the overall health of the various cells in the body.

Consume saffron: Saffron is an herb linked with cleansing all those organs that are associated with excretion. The skin is one of the excretory organs, and saffron plays a role in cleansing the skin and keeping it glowing.

Incorporate the above into your daily routine to detoxify the body. Finally, and most important of all, drink enough water. Water is most important in flushing out toxins from the body and keeping the skin glowing and clear.
