Vasco: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) chief officer (CO) Santosh Kundaikar has decided to intensify the drive to recover outstanding dues in order to improve financial health of the municipality.
Chief officer Kundaikar brought to the notice of the Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida and various other officers of the municipality, during a meeting held to take stock of the garbage management system, that the MMC has not paid its electricity arrears for the last several years and due to which the MMC can face disconnection of power supply.
He however stressed on intensifying the drive to recover outstanding dues at the earliest.
“We have to improve the financial position of the council by collecting taxes from all the municipal tenants and other establishments. MMC is facing a problem in disbursing monthly salary of its employees. Even the annual bonus was disbursed after Diwali,” he said.
He also laid stress on reassessment of the house tax to boost the revenue flow of the municipality, apart from recovery of trade licence fees.
“I will have to go deeper and work accordingly to improve the financial position of the municipality,” said Kundaikar.
He also said that a new schedule will be made available for the workers of the municipality, including drivers who work on trucks, pick-ups and compactors lifting garbage from all 25 wards.
