CM appeals to farmers to take up organic farming

Panaji : Chief Minister Pramod Sawant Friday appealed to the farmers in the state to accelerate and promote organic farming, which can result in the best quality of agricultural produce, thereby boosting the state economy. 

The Chief Minister was speaking at a virtual programme of instalment release of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme, held in Pernem.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi released Rs 18,000 crore to over 9 crore farmers in the country as an instalment under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme via virtual mode. The programme coincided with the birth anniversary of former prime minister Bharat Ratna late Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Appreciating the scheme launched by the Prime Minister, Sawant said the scheme is the first of its kind wherein farmers are directly receiving financial help from the central government without any hassle.

The Chief Minister said people, specifically the youth must focus on agricultural activities and promote innovations in the cultivation techniques and thus contribute towards Atmanirbhar Bharat and Swayampurna Goem.

Asserting that the farm laws introduced by the central government are fully committed towards the betterment and welfare of farmers, Sawant urged the people of Goa to support the laws for the further progress of farmers in the state.

Deputy Chief Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar and Mandrem MLA and chairman of Goa Tourism Development Corporation Dayanand Sopte also spoke on the occasion.

Deputy Director of Agriculture Shivanand Wagle, Zonal Agricultural Officer, Pernem, Prasad Parab and others were present on the occasion.
