Mapusa: With an aim to improve water supply in the Bardez taluka, three new water filtration plants are proposed at Porvorim, Saligao – Pilerne Plateau
Interacting with the media, Minister for Waste Management Michael Lobo said that three water filtration plants which are in the pipeline will help resolve the water problem in Bardez.
“15 MLD Porvorim water filtration plant work is underway, which will cater to the entire Porvorim constituency, part of Saligao and Calangute, and will help in resolving their water issue. If we release funds of around Rs 4 crore then the first phase of the plant that is 5 MLD will be ready in the next few months. Will speak to the Finance Secretary in connection with the release of funds,” said Lobo.
He further said that “commissioning of 5MLD plant will take care of Porvorim water problem. Then we will have 5 MLD of water from Assonora which can be used by the people from Siolim and Calangute constituencies”
Commenting on Calangute water problem, Lobo said that there is a need to set up 15 MLD water filtration plant at Calangute.
“We have got Tillari waterline in Calangute and there is a need for a 15 MLD water filtration plant with a big tank. The process in the final stages and estimate will be prepared. The fund for the plant is ready and Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) will deposit money with the PWD which will build tank on land given by the GIDC on Pilerne – Saligao plateau,” he said.
He further added that “3 MLD raw water is required by the GIDC, and remaining water will be filtered and then supplied to Saligao and Calangute.”
“Similarly, a 5 MLD tank with a filtration system at Assagao will be enough as the Tillari pipeline is available. We need to construct a new tank and the issue will be resolved.”
