Pernem police Tuesday arrested two persons for cultivating cannabis at Korgao and seized drugs from them worth Rs 20 lakh.
According to police inspector Jivba Dalvi, a police team conducted a raid on Monday at a house in Korgao and arrested Larsen Richard (34), a native of Bandra in Mumbai and residing in Goa, and Rene Neel Santan D’Souza (44), a resident of Korgao.
Police also seized ganja worth Rs 8,600, charas worth Rs 5,60,000 and cannabis plants worth Rs 14,00,000.
Dalvi said initially information was gathered regarding drug activity in Korgao and accordingly vigilance was maintained following which the raid was conducted.
Police said during the raid at the house, it was found that a favourable environment was created in a room for the cultivation of cannabis with tube lights, temperature moderating machines and exhaust fans found placed in the room.
Pernem police have registered an offence under sections 20(b)(ii)(A), 20(b)(ii)(B) and 20(a) read with section 29 of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, against the arrested duo.
Police said this is the sixth raid on cannabis plantation at Pernem in the last two months.
The raiding team of Pernem police was led by police inspector Dalvi and consisted of police sub-inspector Praful Giri and constables Vinod Pednekar, Anishkumar Poke, Ravi Mhaloji, Vishal Naik, Gajanan Sawant, Rohan Velgekar and Kiran Parab.
