Several parents were reluctant to send their wards to schools, due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the state and other parts of the country on the very first day of reopening of schools for class tenth and twelfth on Saturday.
As per available information from some parents, they were still in dilemma, whether to send their wards to school or not with COVID-19 cases in the state has still not declined. The parents fear that their wards may be infected by the pandemic with reports coming from other parts of the state about school students falling sick or ill and even have tested positive for the virus, following the reopening of schools.
However, the school teachers and management has ruled out any possibilities of students getting infected with COVID-19 due to the all out measures adopted by them while handling the students on the reopening of schools on Saturday and even for other days.
The headmistress of Vaddem Nagar Government High School at New Vaddem Sunali Pednekar told this daily that “The school authority has taken all necessary care of the students on the first day of reopening of schools for class tenth. We have sanitised the school and even classes. The students were asked to follow social distancing and even to sanitise their hands while entering into the school premises. We have checked the body temperature of every student by using thermal guns. Social distancing was maintained in the class room wherein every student was told to sit on benches by keeping a safe distance. As part of creating awareness, we have stuck pamphlets at the entrance of the school so that students are aware of the dos and don’ts in view of the pandemic situation.”
She also disclosed that all the schools have followed the protocols issued by the state government. “After staying indoors for nearly about eight months, the students were happy to rejoin their classes. We will do our maximum best for the safety of students and would take all necessary care so that students can attend their classes”, informed Pednekar. Meanwhile, most of the schools saw less attendance from students on very first day of reopening of schools all over Mormugao taluka on Saturday.
