Nagpur cops bust online racket, arrest woman from Majorda


Margao: A major online racket was busted by a Nagpur police team on Thursday following the arrest of a woman from Calata in Majorda for her involvement in the racket and cheating several people in Goa, Nagpur and other cities. The Nagpur police team was assisted by Colva cops.

Police said the woman was wanted by Nagpur police in connection with an earlier offence registered against her. They disclosed her name as S Alvares.

The woman has cheated several unsuspecting individuals in Goa, Nagpur and other cities to the tune of lakhs of rupees, said police.

The Nagpur police have registered an offence against the woman under sections 420, 468, 471 and 384 for cheating, forgery, fraudulently or dishonestly using as genuine any document and committing extortion. The police have also booked her under Section 66A of the IT Act and the Passport (Entry into India) Act, 1920, and are in the process of contacting banks to check her accounts.

The team of Nagpur police, led by police inspector K Sagar, which was camping in Colva since Thursday morning, arrested the accused in the evening from her residence in Majorda. The Nagpur police was assisted by the Colva police. She was later taken to the Colva police station and interrogated.

Sources in the police said the accused was produced before Judicial Magistrate First Class, Margao, and a remand has been obtained till November 2. The accused will be taken to Nagpur on a transit warrant.
