CM trying to pass the buck over Mhadei issue: AAP

Panaji : Interim state convener of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rahul Mhambre on Wednesday strongly criticised the Mhadei-related statements of the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, in which Sawant focused on failures of the Congress party.

“The Chief Minister, in these statements did not say anything about his plans to save Mhadei River,” he added, pointing out that since the day Goa made a formal complaint against the deeds of Karnataka government pertaining to diversion of the river, some 18 years ago, nothing has been done and we are losing out on the river waters every day.

Addressing a press conference, Mhambre said that during ten years of the Congress rule, and eight years of the Bharatiya Janata Party regime, Goans have been losing out on the Mhadei water, while both these parties are busy playing blame games.

Pressing on the importance of Mhadei River, the state interim convenor of AAP said that it is the single-largest source of sweet water and the lifeline for every Goan. “It is the main source of irrigation,” he added.

Maintaining that BJP has compromised the interest of Goans at the behest of the Centre, Mhambre said that Karnataka having more Parliamentary seats than Goa, has made the Centre tilt in favour of Karnataka on the Mhadei issue.

He also pointed out that the structures built by the Karnataka government has diverted the Mhadei water, and the level of water in the river flowing in Goa has reduced even though the state has received the highest rainfall ever, this season.

The AAP stated that all the political parties in Goa should work together, in the interest of Goans, leaving all political differences aside, so that Mhadei continues to flow into the state.
