The main water pipeline of 1,000 mm coming from Assonora water treatment plant got ruptured at Colvale on Wednesday morning when work of the highway expansion was underway and, as a result, a large amount of treated water went waste.
The main line of 1,000 mm caters to Mapusa, Porvorim, Colvale and other pockets of Bardez taluka.
On receipt of information, the water supply was disconnected and then the PWD officials took up the restoration work on a war footing and by evening the work was completed. And the water flow through the line was also restored.
“We took up the repair work of the main line of 1,000 mm on a war footing and by 5.30 pm it was completed,” informed a PWD engineer.
He further stated that “as a precautionary measure, the department has already issued a restricted water supply notice for September 17 for the entire taluka.”
Water pipelines getting damaged, in the process of execution of highway work, has become a frequent occurrence along the Colvale-Karaswada. Sources in PWD water supply claimed that despite writing numerous letters for taking precautionary measures to avoid damage to pipelines while executing the highway expansion work, the
contractor has been haphazardly carrying out the work.
