Mapusa farmers demand restoration of names




Farmers of Mapusa on Wednesday approached the Mapusa Municipal Council demanding restoration of names of farmers who are not mentioned in the draft land use register. They also demanded a joint meeting with North Goa Planning and Development Authority over the issue. The civic chairperson Ryan Braganza assured of convening a meeting with the member secretary of NGPDA.

On Wednesday, farmers under banner of Shri Bodgeshwar Shetkari Sangh and Tenants Association of Camarcasanacho Bundh approached the chairperson of municipal council Ryan Braganza and chief officer Kabir Shirgaonkar over the issue of deletion of names of farmers (tenants) from the draft land use register which has been kept open for inviting suggestions and objections.

Sanjay Barde, president of Shri Bodgeshwar Shetkari Sangh said that “over 1,300 names of farmers have been deleted by the NGPDA, while names of owners are still reflecting in the land use register.” He said that “a meeting be convened with member secretary of NGPDA to listen to our grievances and explain why names have been omitted.”

Braganza said that “ownership and tenant matters are handled by the revenue department. We have already spoken to the NGPDA member secretary who has assured to help farmers in restoration of their names.”
