Melauli locals against construction of compound wall for IIT project

Ponda: Irked over the award of a tender to some party for construction of a compound wall around IIT project land, Melauli locals demanded for a special gram sabha to oppose the construction of the compound wall and stated that they won’t allow any construction related to the IIT project at any cost. Melauli locals under the banner Melauli Pancakroshi Gram Bachao Andolan (MPGBA) made this statement at Ponda on Monday during their visit to the PWD’s Executive Engineer XVI office at Ponda for the scraping off the tender floated by the office.

Earlier, MPGBA had submitted a letter to the PWD’s office at Ponda on August 18 demanding to scrap the tender for the compound wall. But villagers did not get any reply.

During their meeting with the executive engineer Sudhir Parab, villagers learned that the PWD has already awarded the tender to a party and work on the same will commence soon. Parab informed locals that survey for the compound wall is already done and the tender is awarded to Amol Navelkar and thereafter work order would be given. “Only higher authorities can decide in the matter” he said. “We have submitted a letter to PWD’s executive engineer to revoke the tender. We will never allow construction of the compound wall around the IIT project land. Earlier, we have submitted letters to Guleli Panchayat on three occasions not to issue any NOC for construction activities related to the IIT project without a special gram sabha. Similarly, letters were also forwarded to the deputy collector” said a villager.
