Atletico boss Simeone tests COVID-19 positive

MADRID: Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone has tested positive for coronavirus, the Spanish club said. The 2013/14 La Liga champions said that Simeone is asymptomatic and isolating at home. The Madrid-based club is not playing this weekend in the new season of La Liga, having given a late start to the season due to their involvement in the Champions League in the previous season.

Two UAE players charged with anti-corruption breaches

DUBAI: United Arab Emirates (UAE) cricketers Amir Hayat and Ashfaq Ahmed have been charged with five counts of breaching anti-corruption rules and provisionally suspended with immediate effect. Both players have been charged with accepting bribes to influence a match and failing to disclose any such approaches made towards them to the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU).

Indonesia cancels plan to host Asia badminton tournaments

JAKARTA: Indonesia decided to cancel its application to host the Asia serial badminton tournaments following its decision to withdraw its teams from the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic has yet to subside. As the pandemic is ongoing and many countries have disallowed their citizens to visit Indonesia, the Indonesian Badminton Association decided to cancel its bid to host the Asia serial tournament, the association’s secretary general Achmad Budiharto said in a statement on Sunday.

Jamshedpur FC sign Lalnunfela, Bhupender

JAMSHEDPUR: Jamshedpur FC added two more players as the club comes close to concluding their squad-building process for the Indian Super League (ISL) 2020-21. Forward William Lalnunfela and winger Bhupender Singh were added to the Jharkhand side’s roster. Both players have been signed on a three-year contract, which will see them wearing the club colours till 2023.

Fanai, Reagan join Chennaiyin FC

CHENNAI: Chennaiyin FC confirmed the signing of left-back Lalchhuanmawia Fanai and right-back Reagan Singh for the 2020-21 season. 31-year-old Fanai who hails from Mizoram and was better known as ‘Chhuantea’ along with 29-year-old Reagan from Manipur, join the two-time Indian Super League (ISL) champions on free transfers.

600 village kids participate in AIFF’s Golden Baby Leagues

NEW DELHI: As part of the Golden Baby Leagues initiative nearly 600 children took part in the 2019-20 season, with half of them being girls, in Rurka Kalan village, 30 km from Jalandhar district headquarters. The village’s Youth Football Club, formed in 2001, conducted separate leagues for boys and girls in the U-6, U-8, U-10, and U-12 categories. The initiative was launched by AIFF in 2018 to engage children in the age group 6-12 in football and give them exposure to the sport from a very young age.
