GFA to appoint 5-member investigative panel to look into ‘match fixing’


Panaji: The Goa Football Association (GFA) on Friday decided to go ahead with the setting up of a five-member committee headed by a Retired Judge to investigate the red flagged matches of Goa Professional League involving seven teams concerning six league matches held from October 16 to November 19 based on the AFC Report that “there was suspicious betting patterns indicative of match manipulation.”

“Churchill Alemao disclosed that the decision to appoint the Investigation Committee had the approval of the Executive Committee which decided the matter via circulation,” stated GFA’s press note issued on Friday.

“The proposal put up by the president was backed by senior vice president Lavinio Rebello, vice president Anthony Pango, members Dionizio Dias, Dominic Pereira, Gregory D’Souza, John Fernandes, Mauricio Almeida, Franciso Nunes, John Silva, Cosme Oliveira, Jaju Fernandes and Jose Santarita Coelho (Babush),” it stated further adding, “some of them suggested that a police complaint also be lodged.”

“Babli Mandrekar, Jonathan de Souza, Prakash Dessai were in favour of filing the complaint with the Police Crime Branch while Welvin Menezes was for filing the complaint with police followed by internal investigation which is to be presented to Police,” it said.
