Goan IT body seeks timely implementation of Goa Telecom Policy

Panaji: The Goa IT Professionals (GITP), the representative group of IT units and startups in the state on Thursday, asked for time-bound implementation of the newly announced Goa Telecom Infrastructure Policy 2020.

Hoping that the state telecom policy will give the much-needed respite on the internet connectivity front, GITP added that, the government’s decision to implement the policy through a single window clearance system for over ground and underground infrastructure is commendable.

Unlike other policies such as several versions of the IT Policy, Startup Policy, numerous MoUs, fancy consultants, committees and task forces etc of the past which failed to deliver significant results due to lackadaisical approach in implementation, this newly announced policy must get notified and implemented in a time bound manner on a war footing. Only time bound implementation will have the desired impact and help the citizenry. Without effective execution, the policy will have no standing or value to the businesses and to thousands of Goans flocking back to the state for work-from-home, freelancers, emerging startups and the education sector,” pointed out the IT representative body. .

GITP also pointed out the failure of the PPP based Goa Broad Band Network (GBBN) as opposed to State Wide Area Network (SWAN) as majority of the state is still struggling with connectivity woes.

Members of GITP added that, since the telecom policy has been prepared by in consultation with representatives of the state government, Tower and Infrastructure Providers Association (TAIPA), various telecom providers such as BSNL, Reliance Jio, Indus Towers Ltd., local internet service providers such as DNA, DTPL, UTL etc, they expect the interests of the citizens to be protected while looking after the interest of the stakeholders. The state cabinet approved Goa Telecom Infrastructure Policy 2020 on August  12.
