Margao: Former chairman of the House committee constituted by the then Manohar Parrikar-led government to investigate the police-drug mafia nexus Francisco Xavier (Mickky) Pacheco on Thursday said that it was Roy Naik, the son of present Congress legislator from Ponda Ravi Naik who was involved in drug trade.
Speaking to this daily, Pacheco said, “I confirm that it’s Roy Naik, the son of former Home minister (2007 to 2012 term) and present Ponda legislator Ravi Naik, who was involved in drug trade. A House committee was formed to investigate the police-drug mafia nexus. Late Manohar Parrikar was the chief minister. I was made the chairman of the House committee and given six months’ time to investigate the drug traders and police involvement. While investigating the cases, it came to light that Roy Naik, son of former Home minister Ravi Naik, was involved in the drug trade. A 25-page report was submitted on the floor of the House by me with a tag that Home Minister’s home is involved in drug trade.”
“It was found then that the biggest drug lord used to stay at Parra, the area of legislator Micheal Lobo. His wife was the sarpanch at that time. She, therefore, should have known who were the drug mafia, but Lobo, who was one of the members of the House committee did not sign my report. The then legislator late Vishnu Wagh also did not sign the report, while other members Caitu D’Silva and police officer-turned legislator Lavu Mamledar had signed it. This is an indication that BJP was and is involved in drug trade,” Pacheco alleged.
He said the BJP is fooling the people of Goa by saying they have no idea who is that Roy Naik, who was involved in the drug trade. “I had submitted the report to the government between the 2012 and 2017 term. The report was then sent to the Crime branch, SIT, which was, however, controlled by the government, then led by late Parrikar and then by Laxmikant Parsekar,” Pacheco said.
