Faith in times of crisis

Priests and members of the church committee present at the blessing of the first crop of the season

Despite the current coronavirus crisis, the annual ‘Konnsachem Fest’ of Our Lady of Snows Church, Raia was celebrated with great fervour on Wednesday. The main celebrant at the mass was Fr Valerian Vaz of Saligao seminary while the concelebrants were Fr Pedro D’Costa and Fr Heston Ferrao, both parish priests of this church. Celebrated at the beginning of the harvest season in Goa, the ‘Konnsachem fest’ is a thanksgiving ritual wherein devotees pray for a fruitful harvest and God’s continued blessings.

Due to the pandemic, parishioners weren’t present to participate in the celebrations this year. The first crop of the season was blessed in the presence of priests and a few members of the church committee. Following this, the first sheaves of paddy were cut and taken to the church.
