Saifullah Khan detained for staging dharna at Mangor Hill




Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) secretary and ward-11 councilor of Mormugao Municipal Council Saifullah Khan was detained by Vasco police, on Monday afternoon, after he staged a dharna at the  Mangor Hill containment zone.

As per Vasco PI Paresh Naik, Khan was detained from Mangor Hill containment zone after he staged dharna on Monday afternoon.

“Khan was detained from Mangor Hill containment zone as per the directions issued by the deputy collector and sub-divisional magistrate, Mormugao. He was brought to Vasco police station and then was taken to the office of the district Collector, South in Margao. The Vasco police in this regard have prepared a report against Khan, under Section 107 of CrPC, and the same will be forwarded to the district Collector, South.”

Tension prevailed at Mangor Hill containment zone after police detained Khan in the afternoon.

A large number of people had also joined   Khan in staging dharna at the containment zone.

A strong pose of police personnel was deployed in and around Mangor Hill
containment zone to prevent any untoward incident.

Khan had given a August 2 ultimatum to the  government, threatening to go on an indefinite hunger strike, if it failed to de-notify Mangor Hill as containment zone, as ‘the people are facing a lot of hardships for the last over two months.’

Meanwhile, Khan informed that the district Collector, South has assured him to fulfil his demands with regards to giving relaxations at Mangor Hill containment zone.

“I have been assured by the district Collector, South, to look into demands, so that the people can move out from the containment zone after a long period,” claimed Khan.

He, however, said that if the district Collector fails to meet the demands placed by him by this Friday, then he will
again plan to stage dharna and go on an indefinite hunger strike from
Monday onwards.
