5 more lose battle against virus


Panaji: The coronavirus pandemic claimed five more lives on Sunday, taking the COVID death count to 53 in the state.

As per information provided by the directorate of health services (DHS), the five, who succumbed to the deadly virus include a 72-year-old man from Headland Sada, a 54-year-old man from Zuarinagar, a 72-year-old woman from New Vaddem and a 54-year-old man from Durbhat. All these four patients had co-morbidities and died while undergoing treatment at the Margao-based COVID hospital.

The fifth fatality is a 45-year-old woman from Baina, who also died at the COVID hospital. However, there was no clear information provided by the DHS on whether the deceased had any co-morbid condition.

Of the total COVID deaths, four were reported in June, 41 occurred in the month of July and remaining 8 in the first two days of this month.
