Congress: Health Minister, CM should check ‘condition’ of COVID Hospital

The Congress party, on Saturday, demanded that the Health Minister and Chief Minister visit COVID Hospital, and check the condition of the facility and the exhausted staff working there.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar criticised the government stating it had failed in handling the COVID pandemic in the state.

“The Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, who has completely failed to handle COVID pandemic in Goa must dare to make a visit to the COVID Hospital at Margao with Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and experience the pathetic condition there and listen to the over-exhausted staff,” he said.

Chodankar also pointed to the recent case of Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias, who was shifted to the GMC, after spending several weeks at the COVID Hospital after testing positive for the virus.

“The very fact that BJP MLA Clafasio Dias opted to continue his COVID treatment in the GMC vindicates the Congress party stand that all is not well in ESI Hospital, Margao, which is designated COVID Hospital. The doctors, healthcare workers and the support staff at COVID Hospital are over exhausted and fuming with anger against government’s apathy to give them substitutes,” he added.

The Chief Minister had during his recent visit to Margao had said that the state could not provide five-star facilities to patients.

Criticising the government, Congress questioned basic facilities to the medical staff.

“The CM who made a categorical statement at Margao saying that government can’t provide five-star facilities to patients should note that the patients, doctors, nurses and support staff are not provided with even  basic facilities. This is the reason why the wife of Dr Edwin Gomes had to approach court. The conspicuous silence of the CM on unutilised two floors of the South Goa District Hospital is endorsement of the fact that BJP has some hidden agenda,” said Chodankar.
