The state continued to report an alarmingly high number of coronavirus infections as Goa’s COVID-19 tally crossed 6000-mark, recording the highest-ever single-day spike of 280 cases on Saturday.
The previous biggest single-day jump in COVID cases was reported on July 27 when Goa saw 258 cases of the dreaded virus.
Some 227 COVID patients have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours.
With these recoveries and new cases, the confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Goa currently stands at 6,193; of which 1707 are active while 4,438 people have defeated the deadly disease.
Forty-eight COVID patients have succumbed to the virus In the state, till date.
According to the directorate of health services, the 1,707 active cases include 33 people who travelled to Goa from outside by road, rail and air.
A majority of the active COVID cases in Goa fall under the jurisdiction of the urban health centre of Vasco with 390 cases, primary health centre of Cortalim has 334 cases, the UHC Margao has 110 cases and the PHC Ponda has recorded 89 cases within its jurisdiction.
The community health centres from where the cases are emerging are Bicholim (6), Sankhali (32), Pernem (15), Valpoi (30), Curchorem (19) and Canacona (3). The other UHCs include Mapusa (59) and Panaji (80).
The COVID cases are also surfacing from the jurisdiction of PHCs that include Aldona (18), Betki (13), Candolim (36), Cansarvanem (6), Colvale (27), Corlim (13), Chimbel (87), Siolim (17), Porvorim (34), Mayem (5), Balli (48), Cansaulim (21), Chinchinim (2), Curtorim (43), Loutolim (34), Marcaim (19), Quepem (17), Sanguem (6), Shiroda (11), Dharbandora (19), and Navelim (31).
