Trawler owners at Cutbona jetty divided over ‘commencement’ of fishing

After a dismal fishing season last year, uncertainty looms over the commencement of new fishing season even as the government has reduced the fishing ban period to just 45 days.

Trawler owners are divided over commencement of fishing season as workers who had arrived at the Cutbona jetty have tested positive for COVID.

The owners of purse seine trawlers have deferred the fishing season till September 1, while the small trawler owners remain divided over the commencement of fishing with some wanting to start on August 15 while others wanting to go as per directives of the government.

The district administration has also put in place stringent regulations, and trawler owners will have to furnish COVID negative certificates of the workers besides health check-up of the workers by health department and other precautionary measures.
