Voluntary lockdown gets good response in Mandrem

Shops seen closed due to the voluntary lockdown at Mandrem on Sunday.

Mapusa: The self imposed lockdown by the Mandrem Village Panchayat on Sunday received good response on the first day of the lockdown as commercial establishments remained closed and local residents stayed at home.

It may be recalled that a local resident who was working on a barge recently tested positive for COVID-19 raising concern among the local residents of the village. Following which a special meeting was called by sarpanch Serefina Fernandes. After holding discussions it was suggested to have a two-day voluntary lockdown in the village as precautionary measures. Accordingly an announcement was made in the village to create awareness among the local residents.

On Sunday all commercial establishments remained closed except pharmacy stores and a few milk shops in the village.

Distribution of homeopathy medicine ‘Arsenic Album 30’ pills was undertaken by panchayat member Mahadev Harmalkar along with Prasad Shahapurkar and local youth to boost immunity of locals residing in around 150 houses in Dandoswada Mandrem.
