Vasco: MV Norwegian Escape cruise liner made its maiden visit to Mormugao Port on Monday, carrying 473 stranded Goan seafarers on board.
Senior deputy traffic manager of Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) along with cruise team and shipping handling agent M/s JM Baxi coordinated the entire operation of the sign off of the seafarers with the help of various agencies and district administration.
A team from directorate of health services (DHS) consisting of around 20 officials worked tirelessly and the collection of throat swab samples of all the seafarers was held in a record time.
The seafarers are kept on board until the results of their COVID-19 tests are out.
MV Norwegian Escape is the second of-its-kind cruise liner that sailed to Mormugao Harbour after Celebrity Infinity, which carried Goan seafarers stranded in various parts of the world.
The total number of seafarers who have arrived in Goa by the two cruise liners is 1,499.
