Moti Dongor on tenterhooks as 4 people test positive for COVID

Margao : Four persons from Moti Dongor, Margao, have tested positive for the COVID-19 pandemic exciting anxiety among the people of the area, which is mostly a shanty town in the commercial city of the state.

It must be noted here that the four COVID positive cases recorded at Moti Dongor are linked to the Mangor Hill outbreak.

Consequent upon the four persons testing positive for the virus, health authorities resorted to mass COVID testing, taking swab samples of around 100 residents. The mass testing has been carried out as part of contact tracing of the four COVID positive people. 

Speaking on the COVID situation on the hill, local MLA Digambar Kamat said that on Saturday some 25 samples had been taken. However, only four persons tested positive for the deadly virus. 

“Three of the positive persons are from the same family. So the people of the entire Monte Hill will be subjected to the COVID test. The local school is being used as a centre to collect throat swab samples,” he explained.

Kamat ruled out the possibility of the area being declared as a containment zone right now, as there is no

significant number of COVID cases.

Police personnel were however seen in the area, advising people to stay at home till the testing drive was complete.

Moti Dongor is mostly a densely populated slum, which has been on tenterhooks owing to the spread of the virus

in the state.
