The Goa University Choir (GUC) will globally broadcast its first live online concert as the opening act of the UK Lancaster Arts Festival.

Organised by the Lancaster University and the Arts Council of England, the Lancaster Arts Festival has adopted an online format this year due the COVID-19 pandemic

Titled ‘The Chants of the Thar Desert’, the GUC music act is a collaboration between Western and Eastern traditions; Flamenco, Sephardic, Hindustani and Choral Music.

The amazing sounds of ancient India have survived millennia, inspiring both Eastern and Western musical traditions. They share one origin: The Thar Desert and its culture, which is situated in Rajasthan. ‘The Chants of the Thar Desert’ crosses the flamenco and the Sephardic sounds of Mediterranean Sea cultures together with the “atma” (soul) inspired melodies of Indian ancient traditions, offering a unique musical treat.

The performance will be held on June 25, 10 p.m. (IST) featuring musicians Ignacio L Monteverde (UK–Argentina) on flamenco guitar and baroque guitar, Rupesh Gawas (India), voice and tempura, Maria Meireles (Portugal), voice and percussion and Santiago Lusardi Girelli (Argentina), music director and Buddhist traditional instruments.

The concert will be directly broadcast online via YouTube Live (on the Goa University YouTube Channel) for the Lancaster Arts Festival.
