Yoga boosts immunity, can help fight COVID-19: CM

Sankhali/Vasco: Stating that Yog sadhana is the best way to maintain a sound mental health, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday appealed to one and all to practice yoga.

He also said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Yoga guru Baba Ramdev have done a great service by spreading yoga all over the world.

In the programme organised at Sakhali multipurpose hall on the occasion of World Yoga Day, Sawant inspired everyone by performing pranayama for an hour.

He said, “Though all precautions are being taken to control coronavirus, by practicing pranayama and yoga and using ayurveda medicines we can improve our immunity.”

Sawant also said that through yoga, one can achieve physical and mental wellbeing.

Yoga teacher Sandesh Barajankar, Pandurang Kuttikar, Dattaram Kanekar, Lala Desai, Brahma Desai and others were also present.

Meanwhile, the 6th International Day of Yoga was observed by Patanjali Yog Samiti (west Goa unit) in collaboration with various associations on digital platforms on Sunday.

Taking all precautions and following the advisories and guidelines issued by the MHA, the Patanjali Yog Samiti (west Goa unit) in collaboration with BITS Pilani Goa campus, INS Naval units Vasco, Coast Guard unit Vasco, MES  College and HSS Zuarinagar, Sierra Circuits Verna, IFB Verna, Patanjali Chikitsalaya Navabharat Vasco, Veez Digital Solutions Margao, Video Making Mastery Group,  Patanjali Yog Sadhaks, Yog Sadhaks  and students from all over jointly celebrated the International Yoga Day on Sunday.

Participants joined in the Yoga session through digital platforms using Google meet. While 146 participants joined on YouTube, 205 participants joined on Facebook live as Yog Sadhaks performed yoga with Dr Namdev Chopdecar. The theme for this year is ‘Yoga at Home and Yoga with Family.’

Meanwhile, Speaker Rajesh Patnekar along with his wife Aruna, who is also a yoga teacher, also performed yoga in their house on Sunday in view of restrictions due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaker Patnekar said that Yoga and pranayama is the need of the hour in this hectic life adding, “Baba Ramdev has done a great job by popularising yoga to the masses. Everyone must take time to do yoga which will benefit each and every person physically and mentally.”

Patnekar said that the Prime Minister has popularised yoga in countries of the world which itself is a great honour for India.

He said presently the world is facing challenge of coronavirus and we need to be physically and mentally fit to overcome it adding, “Yog pranayama is the best way to improve our immune system.”
