Vasco: Sancoale sarpanch Girish Pillai was voted out of power by 6-5 votes in the 11-member panchayat on Tuesday.
Six panch members including deputy sarpanch Kavita Kamal, panch members Narayan Naik, Tulsidas Naik, Ramakant Borkar, Dr Sunita Borkar and Satish Padvalkar had moved the no-confidence motion against Pillai on May 27, alleging that he failed to take all the panch members into confidence while executing works in the panchayat jurisdiction.
It was also alleged that Pillai failed to give attention to development works.
On Tuesday, Pillai refuted the allegations and said that he always worked for the people and the village. “It was just Rs 6.50 crore funds in the treasury of panchayat when I took over as sarpanch some three years ago, however, the funds in the panchayat as of today is over Rs 13 crore. I have utilised funds for development and benefit of people,” said Pillai.
He urged his rivals to fulfil the dream of Sancoalkars of building and completing the Panchayat Ghar project for which the land has been allocated by a businessman free of cost.
