The officials from the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) visited the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) office on Thursday to verify and get clarity on the 64 pre-monsoon works proposed by the council worth Rs 2.6 crore.
Sources informed ‘The Navhind Times’ that the officials of DMA held a meeting with the municipal engineers and accounts officers to seek more details on the proposed works. Sources told this daily that DMA officials raised two queries and asked the MMC to give a written reply to it.
The MMC had made an estimation of 64 pre-monsoon works worth of Rs 2. 6 crore and that the tender process was nearly completed. However interestingly, the citizens concerned had complained to the MMC and the DMA alleging that these are fake estimation. These citizens had further pointed out in their complaint that the existing drains that figured in the estimation are in the guise of repairs and reconstruction.
It may be recalled that this daily reported the incident and that the state Lokayukta has taken suo moto cognizance of the news report. The anti- corruption ombudsman, headed by Justice P K Misra had given two weeks time to the DMA to submit a report referring to the allegation. The Lokayukta took the news report cognizance on May 15.
The DMA officials visit to the MMC has significance as it is being done reportedly to comply with the Lokayukta directions.
