The South Goa District Congress committee on Thursday observed and paid tributes to former Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi at their district office.
Party leaders remembered Gandhi for his contribution to modern India.
Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, GPCC president Girish Chodankar, South Goa District president Joe Dias, GPCC vice president M K Sheikh and other party members laid a garland on the portrait of Rajiv Gandhi who was assassinated on May 21, 1990.
“We have to remember Rajiv Gandhi’s contribution to the development of the country whether in the field of computers, telecommunications, granting of the 73rd and 74th amendment that gives powers to panchayats and local bodies and the reducing of the voting age to 18 years,” said Kamat.
Chodankar said Gandhi was also remembered for his contribution to take the country forward with new social and technological reforms, empowerment of the women, OBC, SC, ST and even the youth while keeping the entire country together.
