The Mapusa police arrested six persons including social activists, politicians and others for forming an unlawful assembly and for violating the lockdown orders on Wednesday evening. They were later released on bail.
The six accused who were arrested were Manoj Parab, Shekhar Naik, Pravin Asolkar, Jitesh Kamat, Shiv Sena leader Vijay Bhike Congress leader and Sanjay Barde NCP leader and later released them against a bail bond of Rs 10,000 each and a local surety.
It may be recalled that on Sunday a state complaint was filed by PSI Ashish Porob against alleged accused Manoj Parab, Shekhar Naik, Pravin Asolkar, Jitesh Kamat, Shiv Sena leader, Vijay Bhike Congress leader, Sanjay Barde, NCP leader, Francis Fernandes and others for forming an unlawful assembly over the issue of process of demarcation of landed property at Cunchelim and negligently forming an unlawful assembly. Police also booked all the accused for violating the lockdown thereby committing an act knowing that they are likely to spread the infection of COVID-19.
In this connection Mapusa police registered an offence under Section 143, 269, 188 read with 149 of Indian Penal Code against all the accused. PSI Rupali Govekar is further investigating the case.
