Cracking the murder mystery within eight hours, Ponda police on Friday has arrested a Ponda based footwear seller identified as Mansoor Shaik (22) a resident of Bablyakhali Upper Bazaar for allegedly strangling a 17-year-old girl to death in a forest area of Bhaithakol Borim. The accused person is an ex-boyfriend of the minor girl and estrangement between the two is said to be the reason behind the murder.
On Friday morning at around 8 am police received a call informing about a decomposed body found in the WRD’s water tank rest room at Bhaithakol Borim situated in a forest area. Soon police rushed to the spot and conducted the panchanama. After establishing the identity of the girl, police learned that the girl was missing since Monday and a complaint about the same was registered with Ponda police on Thursday by her family members. Further, police pressed its local intelligence team and based on the information obtained from the family members of the victim girl, police narrowed down on the accused within a few hours.
Police has registered an offense under Section 302, 363 IPC and Section 8 of the Goa Children Act. The accused Mansoor Shaik has been arrested and kept in police custody.
