After deferring the Zilla Panchayat elections, the State Election Commission has lifted the model code of conduct that had come into force in the state, including in municipal areas, with the announcement of the poll schedule by the commission on February 21.
“In view of the postponement of elections to the Zilla Panchayat 2020 fixed on March 22, 2020, the model code of conduct imposed by the SEC with effect from February 21, 2020 is lifted with effect from 00:00 hours of the intervening night of March 20 and March 21, 2020,” reads the order issued by State Election Commissioner R K Srivastava. The particular order was issued by SEC late March 20 evening.
The poll panel has said that the polling and counting, will resume, from where the election process has halted adding that the public campaigning to the ongoing election process has already come to an end at 5 pm on March 20,2020.
The SEC has said that there will be no more campaigning and no fresh nominations, as ballot papers are already printed, are in the custody of respective returning officers/assistant returning officers.
