Cong demands release of salary to primary teachers

Members of the Congress party, on Monday, staged a protest at the Directorate of Education, Porvorim, over the non-release of salary to the primary teachers as well as non- teaching staff of the aided and unaided schools in the state.

Only 10 Congress workers were allowed to enter the cabin of education director Vandana Rao, who heard their grievances and asked them to ‘get out’ of her cabin, and this didn’t go well with the protesting Congress workers.

They started demanding an apology from the IAS officer for her ‘rude behavior.’

The Congressmen then sat outside Rao’s cabin and continued their protest, shouting slogans against her. Later, the director tried to have a dialogue by calling four of the Congressmen to her cabin, to clarify on her ‘get out’ remark, however the call was rejected, and instead the Congress workers asked her to come out of the cabin and apologise in front of all the protestors and the media persons.

Sensing law and order problem, 10 protestors were detained, and were subsequently released by the Porvorim police.

Speaking to media persons, Goa Pradesh Youth Congress Committee president Varad Mardolkar said that the Congress members wanted to tell the director about the plight of the teaching and non-teaching staff of schools in the central and north zones whose salary for the last one month has not been released by the government.

“These school staffers hail from poor families. They have no other source of income. There are many who have to repay the loan,” he said and demanded with the government to release their salary at the earliest.
