General manager of South Western Railway Ajay Kumar Singh on Thursday apologised to the BJP Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha for abusing her by terming her as a Portuguese.

After meeting with the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Singh tendered an apology to MLA Saldanha before media persons in the presence and chairman of Railway Board Vinod Kumar Yadav, who has come down to Goa following the direction from the Union Railway Ministry to settle the issue.

Earlier the Chief Minister had summoned Singh at his official residence at Altinho and told him that the government will not tolerate such kind of insult to anyone may it be a MLA or a common man.

While seeking apology from the South Western Railway general manager for abusing BJP woman legislator, Sawant also suggested the chairman of Railway board Yadav to transfer him elsewhere stating that those officers who cannot control their emotions should not be deputed in
the state.

During Goa visit on January 20, while speaking to a group of people led by Cortalim MLA, who had opposed the double tracking of the railway lines by demolishing old houses, Singh had abused Saldanha by terming her as a Portuguese.
