Mormugao MLA Milind Naik, who is also the Urban Development Minister, was allegedly involved in an argument with the deputy chairperson of Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Reema Sonurlekar over the issue of allocation of labourers. An audio of the alleged incident has gone viral.
Speaking to this daily, Sonurlekar said that the Urban Development Minister called her over phone some eight days back to seek labourers.
“According to the Urban Development Minister, I was interfering in the work of allocating labourers but I was helping the chairperson in allocating labourers to tide over the shortage. It was the duty of the Urban Development Minister to allocate adequate labourers for daily works but he failed to do so and on the contrary sought labourers to work in his constituency which was not possible,” she said.
“As we are in the ruling group, it is our duty to
allocate labourers to all the councillors without discrimination but there is
shortage of labourers. How can we dispatch a set of labourers to the Urban
Development Minister to work for several days? Will people not lose faith in councillors if cleanliness is not maintained and therefore I categorically rejected the demand,” said
