2011 Miramar murder: accused gets lifer


Panaji: The High Court of Bombay at Goa on Tuesday sentenced the prime accused Yatin Tidge to rigorous life imprisonment in c Fernandes alias Ghalu murder case of 2011 at Miramar. The High Court had last week convicted the prime accused Tidge however it had upheld the acquittal by a trial court of other accused Ashraf Shaikh, Sandeep Shinde and Krishna Naik.

The High Court had ordered Tidge to remain present in the court on Tuesday, however he was not present and so the High Court has issued a warrant against him.

Salvador Fernandes alias Ghalu was allegedly murdered by five youth on the Dona Paula-Miramar highway in August 2011. All the accused including one juvenile were arrested by the police. In the attack, Ghalu was seriously injured and went into coma and few days later died at the Goa Medical College and Hospital. The trial court had acquitted all four accused in this case due to lack of evidence.

It may be noted that Ghalu was a history-sheeter of Taleigao. Ghalu had enmity with the accused. Following the existing enmity, the four accused and a minor accused had attacked Ghalu in August 2011 with choppers. Ghalu had multiple wounds all over his body which resulted due to the attack and he succumbed to his injuries on September 3, 2011

at GMC.

After conviction, the High Court said that after holding Yatin Tidge guilty of the offence punishable under Section 302 IPC, the counsel representing him sought three days time to address on the point of sentence. The public prosecutor has no objection. As such, the case stands over on December 10, 2019 for hearing on the point of sentence.
