30-year-old held for ‘nude party’ plans

Accused confesses of having rough patch for last six month and was not getting work.

Panaji: The Goa party/nude pool party in Morjim is fictitious and its poster which was viral on social media was made with an intention to cheat prospective customers, the police have said.

30-year-old Armaan Mehta from Katihar Bihar who was arrested by the Crime Branch police in connection with the case has been remanded to 5 days police custody. He is a small time event organiser in Delhi and claimed of floating a nude pool party to lure and allegedly cheat customers said crime branch SP Pankaj Kumar Singh. Police have seized mobile phone and laptop of the accused.

“Mehta has been working with his friends in organizing events and parties in New Delhi. He was having a rough patch for the last six months and was not getting much work”, said Singh adding that, “he then decided to create a demand for his services by floating a poster claiming to organize nude pool parties in Goa”. Mehta had visited Goa once with his friends in October 2018, informed police.

The accused downloaded pictures from internet and edited them using a mobile app. “His plan was to create a sensation and cheat his prospective customers. When he started getting huge number of calls from India and abroad including Dubai he got panicky and switched off his phone”, said Singh adding that, “his role from human trafficking angle is also being probed”. The accused would have reportedly taken money from his prospective customers under the pretext of organizing the party police said.

A case under section 67 of IT Act and section 6 in the Indecent Representation of Women (prohibition) Act was registered at the crime branch, Ribandar. Singh said that the poster contained one mobile number which was switched off. “Based on technical analysis, teams were sent to New Delhi and Bihar, following the leads. The accused had switched off his mobile and had also changed his location at various places in West Bengal and Bihar. After a massive manhunt Mehta was traced and arrested from Katihar Bihar”, said Singh.

A team was constituted to crack the case and it was closely monitored by IGP Jaspal Singh and DGP Pranab Nanda.
