Danston, Velroy script big win for Dempo SC

Raia: Danston Fernandes and Velroy Carvalho scored a brace each while Brivan Dias and Kidron Fernandes contributed with a  goal each as Dempo Sports Club (Jrs) hammered United Club of Telaulim 6-0 in the GFA First Division League match played at Raia panchayat grounds, on Friday.

Dempo SC led the first half 1-0 as Brivan Dias struck in the 17th minute. In the second half, the Dempo SC juniors maintained complete dominance as they scored at regular intervals through Danston Fernandes (47’, 81’), Velroy Carvalho (54’, 70’) and Kidron Fernandes (90+2’) to complete a thumping 6-0 win.

So pronounced was the attack of Dempo SC Juniors that their rivals UC Telaulim began to crack under pressure, whenever the team came up with swift moves. The Telaulim lads somehow managed to contain the Dempo SC strikers in the first session but not for too long as the second half saw goals coming with ease.

Dempo SC went into the lead following a brilliant forward passing bout involving defender Cletus Pinto and Danston Fernandes that completely sliced the rival defence after Brivan received the ball inside the box from where the forward placed the ball to the far end of the nets.

Dempo SC continued with their good play as their midfield comprising Velroy Carvalho, Danston Fernandes, Darrell Mascarenhas and Pristo Dias worked like a well-oiled machine to deceive the rival defenders with defence-splitting passes. However, Telaulim keeper Ruffon stayed bravely under the bar against the barrage of attacks.

Dempo SC’s defence managed by Nikhil Gurung and Co also put up a good show and did not allow any free space to the rival strikers even though Telaulim striker Jesmon Soares tried his tricks to get past them, but only in vain.

The second session witnessed a flurry of raids from the young Dempo SC side who scored as many as five goals to daze the rival defence completely.

Danston made it 2-0 from the penalty spot after a Telaulim defender fouled an onrushing Dempo striker. Danston stepped in to take the penalty shot and bulged the nets angularly.

Velroy scored Dempo’s third goal following a smart move made by Larryl Macarenhas and Brivan.

Dempo’s fourth goal came off following a long through-pass from the centre circle which Velroy utilised after making a dashing run and dodging two rival defenders to slot the ball in.

Thereafter Danston completed his brace with a deft placement that beat the rival keeper hands down and then Kidron struck the final nail with a simple tap in the 90+2 minute.
