Vasco: Vasco police have succeeded in tracing the car, along with its driver, which was involved in hit-and-run case near Dabolim that claimed the life of a Gujarat-based youth and injured other five.
The police disclosed that based on footage of a close circuit television (CCTV) camera installed at a petrol pump located on the outskirts of the town near the Chicalim slope, they traced a Honda Accord car, bearing registration no-GA-08-E-0711, which was involved in the accident.
The police later verified the car from footage of a CCTV camera installed outside a bar and restaurant located along NH17A in the vicinity of St Jacinto Island.
The police also gathered information from informants, who had spotted the speeding car while heading towards Cortalim from Chicalim.
“We arrested the driver of the car Atish Divkar of New Vaddem, under Sections 279, 337, 304 (A) and Section 134 of (a) (b) of Motor Vehicle Act. He was later released on a bail,” informed the investigating police officer Diago Gracias.
It may be recalled that an unknown car had dashed a Maruti Van, bearing registration no-GA-11-A-3361 on the rear side while it was heading towards Cortalim from Chicalim. The van then rammed into an oncoming passenger rickshaw, bearing registration no-GA-01-T-9920. The impact of the crash was such that one of occupants of the rickshaw Parth Bhuptani (26), a native of Junagad, Gujarat, had succumbed to his injuries while being taken to the Goa Medical College (GMC) and Hospital, Bambolim, following the accident that was reported on late Saturday evening.
