Cong kicks off LS poll campaign with cycle rally in Mapusa

Congress party started its campaigning for the Lok Sabha polls with a cycle rally which kicked off from Mapusa and will cover all 20 constituencies of North Goa in order to connect with the masses and listen to their grievances.

Cycle yatra ‘chalo gaon ki aur’ is a unique programme to approach the masses and hear their grievances which kicked off on March 24 and will be held till March 30. Leaders of Congress party including Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Girish Chodankar, chairman of campaign committee and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, CLP leader Chandrakant ‘Babu’ Kavlekar, Nilkanth Halarnkar, North Goa district president Vijay Bhike, former Union minister Ramakant Khalap and others were present.

Speaking to media persons, GPCC president Girish Chodankar said, “First time we are launching cycle yatra in Goa. Cycle is common man’s mode of transport so using cycle we are starting with this yatra starting from Mapusa and will cover all constituencies in North Goa and approach general people and listen to their grievances and also take corner meeting.”

Commenting on the announcement, Chodankar said, “By-poll candidates will be declared in one or two days. This yatra will benefit Congress party in elections to the two Lok Sabha seats and also the by-poll candidates.”

Babu Kavlekar said, “The kind of response Congress party is getting is a clear indication that people have made up their mind to support the Congress candidates in the by-polls and also in Lok Sabha election as both state and central BJP governments are only making false assurances to the people. Hence we are confident that the Congress will win both Lok Sabha and by-poll elections.”
