Panaji police informed that they have registered an FIR against Umesh Kundaikar, a resident of Boca de Vaca, Panaji, for allegedly failing to comply with tenant verification process.
The FIR has been registered under Section 188 of IPC (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) based on the complaint filed by PSI Kishor Ramanan on behalf of the state.
The police said that the accused gave his house premises on rent to tenants who are natives of Bihar but allegedly failed to verify their bonafides by filling tenant verification form and submitting the same to the police, thereby contravening the order issued by District Magistrate, North under Section 144 of CrPC.
According to the information, tenant verification is the vital aspect as it enables the police to ascertain the antecedents of the person coming to Goa from other parts of the country.
“Tenant verification is very important as it helps to keep a track of any suspicious or strangers coming to Goa. Through the tenant verification process, their antecedents are verified from their native places,” informed the police.
According to the police, as per the order of the District Magistrate, it is compulsory to get tenant verification done, failing which the house owner is subjected to legal action.
Incidentally, during the last two years, the Panaji police have sent around 325 reports to the district administration against house owners for failing to comply with tenant verification process.
The police claimed that as per the procedure, the district administration has to file complaints, however, even after submitting reports to district administration no complaints were filed with the police for registering an FIR.
However, the police are now filing the complaints on behalf of state against house owners for failure to comply with tenant verification process.
