GVA appoints Shamsundar Tari as interim President; State Championship to start in April


PANAJI: Pursuant to the suspension of Irvin Soares as President of the Goa Volleyball Association (GVA) and as Vice President of Volleyball Federation of India (VFI), the GVA has appointed Shamsundar V Tari as interim President. The decision to appoint Shamsundar was taken at the special Executive Committee meeting.

“The Goa Volleyball Association is going to host the State Championship in Ponda from the second week of April. GVA has planned a referees clinic before the start of the tournament,” GVA secretary, Santosh Bandodkar, informed this newspaper.

“Irvin Soares is no longer associated with the Goa Volleyball Association. All official correspondence and any official competition will be routed through Santosh Bandodkar,” VFI president Avadesh Kumar Chaudhary told The Navhind Times over the phone.

It may be noted here that Irvin Soares was placed under provisional suspension as vice president of VFI and president of GVA on February 26, 2016. The ‘immediate provisional suspension’ letter to Irvin , sent by Avadesh Kumar states: “ It has come to my notice that you, Mr Irvin Soares participated in an unauthorized meeting of a “core committee’ on 22.2.2016 , while it was within your knowledge that this ‘core committee’was dissolved on 20.2.2016. This has been brought to your notice via email which was sent on 20.2.2016(annexure A).It has also come to my knowledge that in this meeting you took part in activities and decisions, which are against the decisions taken by the President, Volleyball Federation of India in its Annual General Meeting and Executive committee meetings pertaining to the Indian volleyball leagues of India,” reads the suspension letter.

“By sending this notice, you are hereby deprived of all your powers enjoyed as Vice President, VFI and President of Goa Volleyball Association , including voting rights. Further, you cannot be part of any decision making committee of VFI,” adds the note.

“Due to the suspension by VFI it was unanimously decided to relieve Soares from the post of president of The Goa Volleyball Association . He has been restrained from taking any decisions, meetings, press releases, coaching camps, selection trials and for approaching Sports Authority of Goa (SAG), Goa Olympic Association. He also has no authority to relieve or to appoint any member on Managing committee of the Goa Volleyball Association (GVA) or any bank transaction by using his signature,” says a press release issued by GVA secretary, Santosh Bandodkar.
