‘Ek Aslo Surya’ secures maximum awards at 7th Children’s Tiatr Competition

Tiatr- ‘Ek Aslo Surya’ produced by Fulte Machi Mogi, Raia, won nine awards this year at the recently concluded 7th Children’s Tiatr Competition. While, Michael Gracias’ tiatr- ‘Good For Nothing’ secured seven awards, and tiatr- ‘Baulem’ produced by Our Lady of the Rosary School, Dona Paula won six awards under different categories at the special award presentation ceremony of 7th Children’s Tiatr Competition organised by Tiatr Academy of Goa at Gomant Vidhya Niketan, Margao.

This year nine tiatr troupes participated in the competition. Amongst these, the first prize for Best Performance was accomplished by the participants of tiatr- ‘Good For Nothing’, second place for ‘Ek Aslo Surya’ and third prize for tiatr- ‘Baulem’. Moreover, Michael Gracias won the first place for Best Direction for his tiatr- ‘Good For Nothing’, Marcos Gonsalves won second place for direction of tiatr- ‘Ek Aslo Surya’, and Antonet De Souza won third place for tiatr- ‘Baulem’.

There were two individual awards each for Best Acting- Male and Best Acting- Female. Larsen Gracias (Good for Nothing) and Franjoe Pinto (Ek Aslo Surya) secured first and second place, respectively, under category Best Acting-Male. Decima D’Costa (Xikon Bruth) and Lee-Sania Estibeiro (Good for Nothing) won first and second place respectively under category Best Acting- Female.

Since comedy is known as the backbone of tiatr, Best Comedian is a mandatory award. This year both the awards were taken by comedians from tiatr- ‘Xikon Bruth’. Andrade Franco won Best Comedian- Male award, and Anelly Lobo won Best Comedian- Female.

Michael Gracias (Good for Nothing) won first place for Best Script, while Marcos Gonsalves (Ek Aslo Surya) secured second place for a good script.

Two individual awards under category Best Solo- Male and Best Solo- Female. Shawn Sequeira won first place for song- Goa (Kaide Kiteak Keleat?), and Hansel Pereira won second place for song- Tiatrachim 125 Vorsam (Good for Nothing) under category Best Solo- Male. Shanaya Pereira achieved first place for song- Onath Bhurgim (Dixea), and Shania Silveira won second place for song- Bhurgeponn (Baulem) under category Best Solo- Female.

Best Duet award was secured by Alisha Pereira and Joyrus Mascarenhas for Xristi Gorjechi (Ek Aslo Surya). Easha Govekar and Amisha Govekar won Best Duo award for Zonvlleo Bhoinni (Xikon Bruth). Besides, Liezel Coutinho, Reuben Kakde and Reeve Fernandes won Best Trio award for Tiatr Korum-ia (Good for Nothing); while Joseph Colaco, Anjoe Oliveira, Alisha Pereira and Mayola Colaco won Best Quartet for Romi Lipi (Ek Aslo Surya). The award for Best Choral Song was achieved by Megan Vas and Drisha Coelho for Sao Lourens (Bhurgim Tim!).

Fr Santana D’Souza won first place for Best Lyrics for his song Devan Dileant Tim Dennim (Kaide Kiteak Keleat?), and P Agnelo Fernandes won second place for lyrics for his song Xristi Gorjechi (Ek Aslo Surya).

Kaantaras and music are most important aspect of tiatrs. This time, tiatr- ‘Baulem’ won both the awards for music. Vitorino Araujo won an award for Best Music- Live Band, and Mohan Khavnekar won an award for Best Background Music.

Tiatr remains incomplete without other aspects required for the final stage performance. Hence, Tiatr Academy of Goa kept in mind these special award categories to praise their praiseworthy effort. Cruz Sequeira (Baulem) won award for Best Setting, Romeo Colaco (Ek Aslo Surya) won Best Light Effects, Mercy Coelho (Xikon Bruth) for Best Makeup, and Sandra Gonsalves (Ek Aslo Surya) won award for Best Costumes.

President of Dalgado Konknni Akademi, Premanand Lotlikar was the chief guest for the function. He said: “Tiatr has evolved a lot over time. Many initiatives are taken up by Tiatr Academy of Goa to promote tiatr and talented Goans. But I feel that more people from other religions especially Hindu should participate in tiatr to promote it further.” Tiatr artist Josefina Dias was the guest of honour for the ceremony.

Presentation of a musical show by selected singers amongst the participating troupes of the competition was held at the award ceremony. The competition was judged by tiatr personalities Aniceto Lourenco, Domnic D’Costa and Bonifacio Pereira. The function was hosted by Sharon Mazarello.
