Rs 1.5-lakh theft in densely populated Valpoi area



Burglars entered a house located in a densely populated Sayyadnagar in Valpoi, on Friday evening, by removing its roof tiles and decamped with a cash and jewellery, all worth Rs 1.50 lakh.
The theft came to light when the occupants of the house, who were away for a function at Quepem, returned.
According to Nadim Shah, one of the family members, the family had gone to attend a function on Friday morning in Quepem. After returning home late in the evening, they found a cupboard was ransacked.
A search revealed that three rings, a pair of ear rings and a bracelet besides a cash of Rs 40,000 were missing.
The family member claimed that gold ornaments and cash worth Rs 1.5 lakh were stolen.
The Valpoi police were immediately informed. A dog squad and finger print expert were pressed into service late Friday night to get the vital leads to track the culprits.
Police investigation revealed that the culprits effected entry into the house between 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. by removing roof tiles.
“Rs 40,000 and gold ornaments worth Rs 90,000 have been taken away” informed PI Pednekar.
The police have registered the case under section 457 and section 380 of the IPC, and a search has been launched to nab the culprits.
Few suspects have been interrogated, said the police, adding they will be able to make a breakthrough in the case soon.
Many prominent people besides the police told this daily that this theft is the result of the locals not cooperating with the police over tenant verification. Several migrants who are residing in rented houses in Sayyadnagar are not on the police
“It is very difficult to trace the culprits when there is no record available. But we are confident of nabbing the culprits,” said a policeman maintaining anonymity.
