Shiroda Higher Secondary School held its first general body PTA meeting with over 370 parents in attendance.
Chairman, Subhash A Shirodkar congratulated students, parents and teachers for excellent results at the Goa Board examinations. Students of commerce and CGDM streams did very well and secured 100 per cent results, students of CRM secured 93 per cent, MREEDA secured 90 per cent, OSS stream secured 89 per cent, arts secured 74 per cent and students of science stream secured 60 per cent.
Shirodkar felicitated students who topped their respective streams. Saeeshwar Naik topped the school by achieving 83 per cent in MREEDA, Ruella Fernandes topped CGDM with 81 per cent along with Siland D’Silva from CRM and Trupti Vishwakarma topped OSS with 77 per cent. In the general stream Prashanti Naik topped commerce with 75 per cent while Alisha Costa topped arts with 72 per cent followed by Sheehan Fernandes with 68 per cent in science.
In his address, Shirodkar expressed his happiness at parents present and said that parents should attend PTA meetings to support the welfare of their children. “Share your thoughts with your children even at the dining table. Cultivate good attitudes and help them channelise their energies and change their mind set whenever necessary,” he said. He requested parents to ensure that their children reach in time for the school assembly as that instills discipline in a child.
Speaker at the meeting was school counselor, Ayesha Pereira who spoke on parenting tips and how to deal with adolescents. “Parenting is a skill; you should have a lot of patience with your adolescents even during trying circumstances. Communication is the key to developing good relations with your children. Listen to your children carefully and give them your undivided quality time. Let them express themselves. Help them make decisions. Trust and respect your children yet hold them responsible for their unbecoming behaviour. It is very important to discipline your child,” she said. She also emphasised that each child is different and to never compare their child with another. She exhorted parents to encourage and support their children and be their role models.
Gauri Subash Shirodkar requested parents to have an atmosphere that is conducive at home and a good relationship with their children. “A student should not only be good at academics, but also a good human being. Do you play a good parenting role? Can your children express themselves to you? How much quality time do you spend with them?” she said.
Shubada Shirodkar and Jyoti Naik introduced staff members to parents, Renita Barneto read out names of the toppers as they were being felicitated along with their parents.
