“I will raise the issue of seeking government’s approval to officially celebrate Konkani Cinema Day in the forthcoming Assembly session and would look forward to see how many of the elected representatives would side with me”, said Calangute MLA, Michael Lobo who was speaking as a chief guest during the Konkani Cinema Day function, recently. The event was organised by Dalgodo Konknni Akademi (DKA) and Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG) at Institute Menezes Braganza, Panaji.
Michael Lobo also recounted the immense contribution of Jack de Sequeira, the Father of Opinion Poll, towards Konkani and lamented the fact that Konkani speaking community is on the decline. He said that most of the Goans who have settled in foreign countries were speaking in Konkani but that apart, they were not rooted in their identity. He added that all should shoulder the responsibility of preserving Goa and that measures should be put in place to restrain Goans from migrating to foreign shores.
Filmmaker Dinesh Bhonsle spoke on the need to produce technically sound films. DKA president Premanand Lotlikar said both DKA and TAG would continue to celebrate Konkani Cinema Day till such time the government officially recognises the contribution of AL-Jerry Braganza.
The function began by garlanding the portrait of AL-Jerry Braganza. Molly Fernandes and Bonifacio Dias were felicitated by TAG for their life-time contribution to Konkani Cinema. Molly even sang a few lines of the immortal song ‘Mollbailo Dov’ from ‘Amchem Noxib’ film.
The entire team of the new Konkani sci-fi film, ‘Hanv Tum, Tum Hanv’ were felicitated on behalf of DKA. A citation appreciating the efforts of Eddie Fernandes who produced the film was also presented.
An exhibition of stills from Al-Jerry Braganza’s films such as ‘Mogacho Aunddo’ and ‘Sukhachem Sopon’ was also organised as well as a book exhibition of Romi Konkani books by DKA and TAG.
Earlier TAG President Agostinho Temudo welcomed and DKA Secretary Vincy Quadros proposed the vote of thanks. Brenda Menezes and Jess Fernandes compered the function. After the National Anthem, ‘Hanv Tum, Tum Hanv’ film was screened.
