PANAJI: A family member of late Fr Bismarque Dias has written to the crime branch police requesting not to conduct lie detector test on one of the youth, who had accompanied Fr Dias at the sluice gate in St Estevem. According to a senior police officer, the family member of Fr Dias has stated that they trust the two boys who had earlier given their statements to the police and that the boys don’t know anything about the death.

However a police officer said that as per the procedure they cannot stop the process and the lie detector test will be conducted in the coming days.

It may be recalled that the body of Dias was recovered on  November 7 from water near a sluice gate in his  St Estevam village from where he reportedly went missing on  November 5 night.

According to the police, earlier both youngsters who had accompanied Fr Dias at the sluice gate were questioned (separately) and their explanation was said to be the same, ruling out any kind of suspicion.

However to ascertain the facts, police had moved applications in the courts seeking permission to conduct lie detector tests on the two youth.

Permission to conduct lie detector test on one of the youth (18 year old) was granted while court rejected the plea in regard to other youth who is minor in age (17 years).

According to the police, the process is on to carry out lie detector test on one youth in a forensic unit outside the state.

According to the police, after viscera report and the diatom test report, the DNA report too has ruled out the possibility of murder angle theory.  The second autopsy report had said that Dias died due to drowning.

It may be recalled that first post mortem report had revealed the cause of death to be drowning, but following the demands of Dias family and social activists who suspected a foul play, a second postmortem was conducted.
