Pak’s Unacceptable Succour for Nepal
THIS refers to the shocking news that Pakistan sent beef as relief to the quake-hit Nepal, which is the only Hindu nation in the world. Hindus in Nepal are devout and strictly follow all traditions and rituals religiously. It was nothing but rubbing salt into the wounds of people there, who rightly refused any aid from Pakistan. The United Nations Organisation and the United Nations Human Rights Commission should take note of such act of Pakistan because international norms never allow hurting religious sentiments of any person. Pakistan’s argument that relief material with beef was for non-Hindus of Nepal is specious because relief aid cannot be separated for Hindus and non-Hindus in such tragic conditions.

On BSNL Penetration in Villages
BSNL Goa has offered some facilities to their customers in Goa. It slashed the ISD rates for just three days for those who wished to call up their relatives in Nepal due to the massive earthquake. They have even gone back to late night free calls. On the one hand BSNL gives good picture about their functioning, perks and facilities in Goa, while on the other hand, BSNL landline connection has not even reached to some of the localities of Nuvem village which are barely four kilometres away from Margao. Kirbhat is one of the localities of Nuvem. It is surprising to know that there is no BSNL telephone connectivity in this ward. Recently, one of the institutions shifted its residence from Benaulim to Nuvem and requested the BSNL authorities to transfer the landline telephone connection to Nuvem. But to their surprise the authorities said that it is not feasible as there is no telephone connectivity in Nuvem. Goa is one of the well-developed states of India but one is utterly surprised and shocked to know that a simple telephone landline connection is not available in a village which is barely four kilometres away from Margao, a commercial town of Goa. Will the higher-ups look into the matter and do the needful?

Keep Buses Clean
BUS is the cheapest mode of transport for many people. This mode of conveyance needs to be maintained regularly. Unfortunately, people who travel in buses chew paan, suparis and other tobacco products and spit out the spittle through windows. The spit often falls on bus seats or window railings, causing inconvenience to other passengers who want to seat. And to cap it all, old buses are often put for operation: some buses have no proper windowpanes, while the others do not have well-maintained seats. Private bus owners should maintain their vehicles regularly. The KTC too should ensure that its buses are clean and in good working conditions.
